"Sweven",MORBUS CHRONS's recently released sophomore LP, is a winner. It inflates expressive, jazzy skronk, bowing out and brutalizing the cardboard-flimsy sides of the usual prog death/thrash box. If the band stopped there, the members of this Swedish quartet would still achieve what the prefix of the aforementioned style distinguisher suggests: they progress. MORBUS CHRON doesn’t stop, though. No. "Sweven" is a journey, a bedtime story you pray will never end. In fact, the cousin of the coffin is a fitting setting for these cuts which often resemble dispatches from the ever-shifting terrain of one’s natural R.E.M. state. Live in Schlotheim!
